The evil dude in Hell Fest feeds on fear, so hide whatever you’re feeling or he’ll never leave you alone. “The more scared you seem, the more they’re going to come after you,” warns one of the teens in the first Red Band trailer.
Directed by Gregory Plotkin (Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension), Hell Fest has a pretty good premise. “A masked serial killer turns a horror themed amusement park into his own personal playground, terrorising a group of friends while the rest of the patrons believe that it is all part of the show,” reads the trailer description. The soundscape was scored by legendary composer Bear McCreary (The Walking Dead, 10 Cloverfield Lane, Happy Death Day).

The film follows college student Natalie, played by Amy Forsyth (Rise, Beautiful Boy), who is visiting her friend Brooke, played by Reign Edwards (The Bold And The Beautiful, Snowfall). They decide to drag Brooke’s roommate Taylor, played by Bex Taylor-Klaus (Voltron, The Killing), out for a seasonal night on the town.
“If it was any other time of year these three and their boyfriends might be heading to a concert or bar,” reads the official synopsis. “But it is Halloween which means that like everyone else they will be bound for HELL FEST – a sprawling labyrinth of rides, games, and mazes that travels the country and happens to be in town. Every year thousands follow Hell Fest to experience fear at the ghoulish carnival of nightmares.
“But for one visitor, Hell Fest is not the attraction – it is a hunting ground. An opportunity to slay in plain view of a gawking audience, too caught up in the terrifyingly fun atmosphere to recognize the horrific reality playing out before their eyes. As the body count and frenzied excitement of the crowds continues to rise, he turns his masked face to NATALIE, BROOKE, TAYLOR and their boyfriends who will fight to survive the night.”
The second trailer fills in some details. It appears the victim of the serial killer stayed on the grounds of the happy horror extravaganza and people thought she was a prop…
The film also stars Christian James (Nashville, Exposed), Roby Attal (The Long Road Home, Red Eleven), Matt Mercurio (Black Lightning, The Resident) and Tony Todd (Candyman, The Man From Earth).
With no UK release date set yet, Hell Fest hits US theaters on September 28 so we can hopefully expect it around the same time.
