Matthew Vaughn isn't directing Terry Hayes' I Am Pilgrim anymore – but James Gray is…

Back in the autumn of 2015, it was revealed that Matthew Vaughn, then enjoying the success of the first Kingsman movie, had signed up to direct the movie of Terry Hayes’ novel, I Am Pilgrim. The book follows a mysterious man called Pilgrim, and was a hugely successful thriller on its first publication. Further books are on the way.

Hayes himself comes from a movie background, having worked on screenplays for films such as Dead Calm and Mad Max 2, but the movie take on his book has been stuck in development for the past few years.

Now it looks as if Vaughn has moved on from the project. And whilst Hayes has penned a screenplay, things had been stuck in limbo.

However, some progress.

James Gray, who directed The Lost City Of Z and is in post-production on sci-fi movie Ad Astra, is set to sign up as the new director here. And it sounds as though the project is a priority now for MGM, with the studio having its eye on a possible franchise here.

We’ll keep you posted as we hear more. It does all sound like it might just happen…
