Tom Cruise’s Top Gun sequel has just picked up a few more co-pilots in the shape of Jon Hamm, Ed Harris and Lewis Pullman. The film is still tentatively titled Top Gun: Maverick and it now seems like most of the main cast is in place.
Cruise and Val Kilmer are both returning (obviously) as Maverick and Iceman, but both are rumoured to be playing flight instructors to a new generation of flying aces – including Miles Teller, Glen Powell, Charles Parnell, Jay Ellis, Bashir Salahuddin, Danny Ramirez and Monica Barbaro. Jennifer Connelly is also on board as the plucky gal who runs the local Navy bar and who is almost definitely going to fall in love with Maverick at some point.
Lewis Pullman (son of Bill, star of The Strangers: Play At Night) is also likely to be a flyboy in the new movie, with Hamm and Harris probably both old enough to be some kind of generals/instructors/volleyball coaches.
The film is directed by Joseph Kozinski (Tron: Legacy) and is expected to deal with a new world of aerial combat – where real planes are being replaced by drones and hotshot pilots like Maverick are no longer needed.
Aiming for a July 2019 release, Top Gun: Maverick is already in the early stages of production.
