Any self respecting Geek knows who actor Patrick Stewart is. He is famous for the roles of Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and its successor films, and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men film series. Apart from those notable roles and many others, Stewart is a firm campaigner against violence toward women.
Patrick himself suffered at the hands of domestic violence as a child.
“Domestic violence is a world-wide phenomenon, one which in some countries is much more severe and destructive then anything I experienced. This is the reason why Amnesty International’s
campaign to bring people’s attention to the issue is so important, because it is here among us and it is continuing in the world at large”
Amnesty International and Women’s Human Rights
Amnesty International regularly documents a range of violations of women’s human rights through reports, news releases, public statements, and letter writing actions. They work with women human rights advocates and like-minded organizations to encourage governments to enforce women’s human rights as defined in various international and regional human rights standards.
Its an inspiration to see actors such as Sir Patrick Stewart speaking out on such issues. If more people of influence and means were to speak out and publicize such problems facing all societies today, instead of constantly publicizing themselves and their bad behavior, there World would be in a better state than it is now.
Thanx to Mick for putting us onto this story 🙂
