CBS All-Access has so many plans to expand the Star Trek universe after its success with Star Trek: Discovery that we’ve just about lost count of them, but the one that’s definitely got our attention is its forthcoming Picard-centric series, with Patrick Stewart returning to the iconic role of Jean-Luc Picard.
The still-untitled project is set to focus on the “next chapter” in Picard’s life, but details are very thin on the ground about what exactly that means, and whether any of the his fellow Next Generation crew will play a part in it.
However, a new image shared by Marina Sirtis, who played Counselor Deanna Troi for many years in the beloved sci-fi series and its subsequent movies, may have had her character ‘sensing’ that something could be afoot on that front…
Joining Sirtis for dinner in the photo were Stewart, LeVar Burton, Gates McFadden, Brent Spiner and Michael Dorn. “The gang’s all here. Well most of them anyway. #friendship #TNGA,” she captioned, but it’s hard not to think of Yosser in Boys From The Blackstuff yelling “Gizza’ job!”
We kid because we love. It’d be great to see the new series peppered with appearances from Picard’s old colleagues, but we shall have to see. Even Stewart isn’t sure what the new series will be about yet.
“He may not be a Captain anymore. He may be someone who has been changed by his experiences,” Stewart mused when the news was first announced. “We have no scripts as yet. We’re just talking talking talking storylines. It will be something very different but it will come to you with the same passion.”
More as we get it.
