Disney’s doggy live-action remake finds its leading Lady

Tessa Thompson has signed on to voice Lady in Disney’s upcoming live-action Lady And The Tramp reboot. Last seen in Thor: Ragnarok (and next seen in MIB), Thompson will now have to channel a pampered Cocker Spaniel in Charlie Bean’s hybrid live/CG version of the 1955 classic – saving babies, fighting rats and romantically slurping spaghetti with a mongrel.

One of many, many live-action cartoon reboots in the works at Disney, Lady And The Tramp will be one of the flagship titles released on the Mouse House’s new streaming service – which likely means it won’t hit cinema screens (at least initially).

Lady was one of the last roles to fill, with Justin Theroux already down to voice Tramp, Ashley Jensen as Jackie (a new female version of Scottie dog, Jock) and Benedict Wong as Bull, the Bulldog. Kiersey Clemons (Transparent, Extant) will play Lady’s owner, Mrs Darling with the film is expected to mix live action humans with CG dogs.

Bean has previously only directed The Lego Ninjago Movie for the big screen, but he’s been working his way up the crew list of TV ’toons since the ’90s, with everything from The Ren And Stimpy Show and Dexter’s Laboratory to Samurai Jack and Tron: Uprising under his belt.

Expect Lady And The Tramp to make everyone go all gooey over spaniels, spaghetti and classic-era Disney animation when it premieres on Disney’s streaming service next year.
