Amazon’s rapid scripted serial television expansion will continue with The Feed, a sci-fi psychological thriller centring on the (very real) dangers of the type of technology that’s eroding the concept of privacy; an erosion that has been exacerbated by the social media age. However, the nightmarish next step depicted here will take shape as technology implanted in the brain.
The Feed is the creation of The Walking Dead producer Channing Powell, who has been given purview here as showrunner. Additionally, the series will have quite a cast to tout.
David Thewlis (Wonder Woman, the Harry Potter films, Fargo) will play Lawrence Hatfield. The character is described as having “invented an omnipresent technology called The Feed. Implanted into nearly everyone’s brain, The Feed enables people to share information, emotions and memories instantly. But when things start to go wrong and users become murderous, the family is driven apart as they struggle to control the monster they have unleashed.”
Michelle Fairley (The White Princess, Fortitude, Game Of Thrones) will play Meredith Hatfield, Lawrence’s wife. She is described as “the CEO of the powerful global mega-company which runs The Feed.”
Guy Burnet (Pitch Perfect 3, Hand Of God, Ray Donovan) will play Tom Hatfield (Burnet), the family’s first-born son. He is described as being “the subject of his father’s early experiments on inserting the neural mesh that connects people to The Feed. Being his father’s guinea pig has come at a cost to their relationship, and Tom is reluctant to use the seductive technology.
Nina Toussaint-White (Bodyguard, Doctor Who, EastEnders) will play Kate, Tom’s wife. She is described as “a young American who shares his wariness to being constantly “on.” When the young couple give birth to a baby daughter, it coincides to changes to The Feed that will have dramatic consequences for the family and the whole world.”
The Feed release date
The Feed hasn’t set a specific release date, but Amazon is targeting a 2019 release for Amazon Prime Video, Liberty Global and all3media international. Consequently, production is quickly set to commence in the UK this month.
