Straight Outta Compton director F Gary Gray looks in line to direct the long-mooted Men In Black reboot…

With Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle proving to Sony, and the broader industry, that there is a way to revive a franchise with genuine affection and skill, the studio has turned its gaze back to Men In Black.

The last we’d heard on this was that a crossover movie between Jump Street and Men In Black was being plotted, but it looks like that idea eventually ran out of momentum. Instead, though, Sony has resurrected the idea of a reboot, and its now said to be in talks with director F Gary Gray about taking the job on.

Gray’s last two films as director – Straight Outta Compton and Fast & Furious 8 – have been significant hits. And if he signs on the dotted line here, he’ll be working from a script by Matt Holloway and Art Marcum.

The movie is likely to follow the tone of the original trilogy, but simply move on and bring in a new cast. There’s no word yet on when to expect it, though, but don’t be surprised if Sony tries to get it filming this year.
