Will Ferrell will lend his pipes for a Netflix feature based on The Eurovision Song Contest.

Will Ferrell’s signing voice is set to get a fresh workout, as he’s set to make a film based around The Eurovision Song Contest for Netflix. The film will be called Eurovision.

Ferrell is just the latest comedy star to produce a feature film for the streaming giant, as mainstream studio comedies struggle to find funding, pushing comedians to the small screen. Free from the confines of international box office results and budget disputes, Ferrell’s production company Gary Sanchez released the raunchy girl trip comedy Ibiza, starring Gillian Jacobs, last month, and now the Anchorman star will step in front of the camera for Eurovision.

The premise is based on the long running The Eurovision Song Contest. The contest, created in 1956, pits each participating nation from the European Broadcasting Union against one another, challenging them to write and perform an original song for a live TV and radio performance.

Casting and further story details are being kept under wraps, but Ferrell is writing with his frequent collaborator Andrew Steele and will produce alongside Gary Sanchez’s Jessica Elbaum, with Adam McKay serving as executive producer.

There’s no release date currently set, but we’ll keep you posted on all things Eurovision as more news trickles out.
