Howard Lew Lewis, who gave life to Rabies in Tony Robinson’s peerless Maid Marian And Her Merry Men, has died at the age of 76.
The news was broken on Robinson’s Twitter account, where he paid tribute to the “kind, funny and gentle” Lewis.

Whilst Maid Marian gave him arguably his most loved role, he also brought to the screen the character of Elmo, the scene-grabbing barman in the long-running TV show Brush Strokes. Furthermore, who could forget when he appeared in the blockbuster Robin Hood: Prince Of Thieves, having the distinction of being in two Robin Hood productions at pretty much the same time?
Lewis died on Saturday 20th January.
