This article contains Elseworlds spoilers.
Well, Elseworlds sure was something, wasn’t it? The best, and most explicitly comic book-y Arrowverse crossover yet was more than just a way to get all the heroes together, it was an exploration of what makes each of them so special. And after all the reality altering, multiverse hopping superhero action, they still managed to end it with one big surprise…Crisis On Infinite Earths.
This is the first time that the Arrowverse has revealed the title and theme of the following year’s crossover at the end of the first big event. Usually, we have to wait at least until the CW Upfront presentation in spring before we get a hint of what’s to come. Not this time. The Supergirl chapter of Elseworlds ended with a promise that next year will deliver on all of the Crisis-friendly imagery that this crossover presented, and they’re going all in on Crisis On Infinite Earths, the event that the Arrowverse has seemingly been building to since the very first episode of The Flash, four years ago.
The possibilities, of course, are infinite, but there are a few things we can glean from this. First of all, while nothing has been officially announced yet, it’s a safe bet that Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl (and probably Black Lightning and Legends Of Tomorrow) already have their next seasons’ renewals in the bag. The other is that Crisis On Infinite Earths will probably do a little bit of housekeeping and finally tidy up a few things that have been annoying fans, namely that Supergirl takes place on a different Earth from The Flash, Arrow, and Legends Of Tomorrow (a necessity since her show started on another network), and Black Lightning will probably follow suit (because that show was initially conceived for another network before moving to the CW). I’m more certain about the former than the latter, but there you go.
Crisis On Infinite Earths air date
Every single major CW DC TV Arrowverse crossover has taken place in December, and that teaser reveal at the end of Elseworlds promised “Fall 2019” so we’ll see you back here around this time in 2019.
